Cause for Celebration

Erigeron grande rubescens (Red flowering buckwheat)

Today, July 27, 2022, I just planted all plants into the ground here at PageRefuge. Such a momentous event is cause for celebration! The above Red flowering buckwheat plants were planted both in the back and front yards as well as along the West side of the house. I love the flowers on these plants so I started many, many, many from seeds. A few plants went to my friends Jenny and Neil; a few more went to my friend Diane.

As I look out at the front yard. It is without the Bermuda grass lawn and ugly, in my opinion, hedges that enclosed the front when we purchased this house. As I stood in the front considering the make over, I felt claustrophobic. The hedges are gone, the entire area mulched thickly and then planted with native plants. Most of the plants came from California Flora Nursery in Fulton, California. Almost 100% of the plants came in 4" pots which flourish magnificently compared to plants bought in gallon or larger containers.

The above Coyote mint, of which there are two, are planted near the walkway so that as they grow nearer the path one's skirt will brush the plants and release the delicious fragrance. As I put the last of the plants I have started into the ground earlier today, I looked out over the front yard. The perennials and bushes are lush with flowers most in the purple and yellow range. I am filled with awe that the plants planted not yet a year ago are flowering.

The Godetia, pictured below in full flower, flowers are spent. A few days ago I cut the plants to the ground.

Three rather small milkweed plants were planted in the same area. Hopefully they will sooner than later look like below milkweed flourishing outside the sliding door at MuRefuge. They are tiny in comparison. How long will it take?

As I spend time in PageRefuge's garden at this most difficult ever time in my life, I often
